Rose Anne Krier of Waterloo, IA, formerly of Illinois, Arkansas, and South Dakota, died on Monday, November 4, 2024. She was born on May 30, 1935, in Emery, SD, daughter of Edward and Kathryn Konzem Krier. Choosing to be a "Career Girl" she received her early education in SD and graduated from Notre Dame Academy, Mitchell, SD.
She first became a Medical Assistant in the Tobin, Tobin and Moran Medical Clinic, followed by certification and teaching of Middle School students. She loved to see them grow and develop as they learned.
Continuing her education at Mundelein/Loyola University, Chicago, (BA Magna Cum Laude) and then at DePaul University, Chicago, (MA with Distinction), Rose fell in love with the "Big City" and stayed. Having enjoyed other positions in inter-related medical/education fields, she became Director of Hospital-wide Education at Alexian Bros. Medical Center in Chicago-suburban Elk Grove Village. Later, promoted to Administrator of Continuing Medical Education at ABMC, she led the development of a CME program, achieving accreditation. This allowed physicians to get their required CME credits on-site. Later she earned her Illinois License as a Clinical Professional Counselor and had a private practice for 18 years. A member of the American Counseling Assoc., Illinois Counseling Assoc., and other professional groups. Rose was selected for the "Outstanding Young Women of America" in 1969 and was named Chairperson for the Tri-State Hospital Assembly in Chicago in 1978. Rose retired first to Bella Vista, AR in 1997 and moved to Friendship Village in 2012.
As a retiree she took active/leadership roles in "The Doughgirls" Investment club, Bella Vista Computer Club, and fund-raising for the BV Animal Shelter. Rose loved her family, good friends, the amazing city of Chicago with its beauty, multicultural and artistic opportunities, Lake Michigan and "Chicago Cubs." She enjoyed music, both classical and music theatre, the ocean, the color red, interior design, photo-scrapbooking, reading, computers, and of course her "rescued" companion animals through the years: Charlie, Gizmo, Brittany, Bailey, CoCo, Cream Puff and Ms. Blue Eyes.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her, grandparents, infant brother, Marcetus, sisters, Victorine "Vicki" (Dale) Fjelstad, and Lorraine (Richard) Malmgren, and brothers-in-laws, Wayne Johnsen, Lorenz "Pete" Kindschi, Dick Stai, Ron Smidt, and James Keen.
Rose is survived by her four sisters, Bernice Kindschi of Waterloo IA, Eleanor Johnsen of Rapid City, SD, Kathleen Stai Smidt of Huron, SD, and Irma Keen of Riverside, IL; and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, great-grand nieces, and great-grand nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 8, 2024, at Friendship Village Chapel, 600 Park Lane, Waterloo, IA 50702. A Memorial Gathering will take place one hour prior. Inurnment to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
