Jean Gilson

Jean Gilson, 77, of Waterloo, died on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics at Iowa City. Jean was born on April 6, 1946 in Waterloo, the daughter of George and Wilma Frey Oldenburger.

Jean graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1964.

She married Johnnie Gilson on May 8, 1970 in Waterloo.

Jean had a knack for decorating and making goodies, pumpkin bars and chocolate chip cookies were favorites. She was a great hostess, you could never go over to visit without being offered coffee or something.

Jean is survived by: her husband, Johnnie; daughter, Jody (Barry) Stratton of Hudson; granddaughter, Kaitlin (Jory Pierce) Clark of Lincoln, NE; two brothers, Darrel Oldenburger of Marion, and Duane (Barb) Oldenburger of Waterloo; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; son, John William Gilson; sister-in-law, Jeanne Mae Oldenburger; two nephews, Randy Oldenburger and Steven Oldenburger; and great niece, Nicole Oldenburger.

Visitation: 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM Sunday, December 10, 2023 at Locke at Tower Park, Waterloo.

Burial: Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo.

Memorials may be directed to the family where a fund will be established.
