Richard Edward Hinz

Richard Edward "Herman" Hinz, age 65, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at University Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

He was born October 7, 1958, in Waterloo the son of Laverne "Bummy" and Violet (Klaffke) Hinz. He worked for GE Railcar Repair in Waterloo and he worked construction on the side.

He married Christie Kay Backerman December 6, 1975, at First Lutheran Church in Waterloo. They remained married until her death in 2017.

He married Tina Adinolfi May 20, 2023, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Cedar Falls.

Herman raced stock cars at local racetracks from the time he was a teenager until 2022. He was a member of the Black Hawk Street Machines and spent time showing his Mustang in car shows.

Survived by his wife Tina of Cedar Falls, his two daughters, Katherine (Jeremy) Fortier of Indianapolis, IN, and Kara (Mike) Nordberg of Palo, IA; Tina's two sons, Andrew (Ashley) Stanley of Washington, Anthony (Jordyn Carroll) Aldrich of Cedar Falls, her daughter Kristin (Kurt) Sjolander of Cedar Falls; six grandchildren, Reagan and Gunther Fortier; Kale and Maia Nordberg; Joseph and Madison Sjolander; his brothers Robert (Sheryl) Hinz, and Roger "PJ" (Kim) Hinz, both of Waterloo; and sister, Carol (Rodney) Robert of Marion.

Preceded in death by his first wife, his mother and father.
