Marla Jean McBride-Hanna

Marla Jean McBride-Hanna, 63, of La Porte City, died Saturday, March 16, 2024, at her home. She was born on April 11, 1960, in Waterloo, the daughter of Junior and Oma Jean Catt McBride. Marla graduated from La Porte City High School in 1978 and married James Hanna, Sr. on April 2, 1997, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She worked for many years with her father as a carpenter.

Marla was a lifelong resident of La Porte City. She enjoyed wood carving and building things, making dream catchers, drawing, flowers, and gardening. Marla was a very kind and giving person who enjoyed talking with her friends and who seemed to know everything that was happening around town. She enjoyed winters in Arizona with Jim, prior to his death. She was a longtime member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in La Porte City.

Marla is survived by her sisters, Ellen Pursell of Citrus Heights, CA, Lurene (Jeff) Swalve of Estherville, IA, and June (Mike) Arbuckle of Georgetown, IL; stepchildren Jim (Sue) Hanna of Middleboro, MA, Lynn (Tina) Hanna of La Porte City, and Krista Hanna of La Porte City, 4 step-grandchildren; 7 step-great-grandchildren; and many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her stepmother, Peggy McBride, and brothers-in-law Jim Turpin and Richard Pursell.

Memorial Service for Marla will be Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at 10:30 AM at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 501 Sycamore St., LaPorte City. The family will receive friends for an hour prior to the service. Memorials should be directed to St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
