Martin Duane Sliekers

Martin "Marty" D. Sliekers, 66, of Waterloo, died March 5, 2025, at MercyOne Waterloo. He was born September 5, 1958, in Waterloo, son of John and Delores "Jean" (Lydon) Sliekers. Marty attended West High School in Waterloo. He was married to Lori Cook from 1980 through 2021.

He was a semi-truck driver for Mayflower for several years and then later for Omega Cabinets. After trucking, he worked for Pries roofing for 15 years. He then moved to Oregon and worked for a landscaping company. Marty retired in July of 2024 and then moved back to Waterloo.

Marty enjoyed the outdoors, particularly riding his bicycle and playing frisbee. Family was important to him, and was always happy to indulge in a round of cribbage. He was an avid NASCAR and Minnesota Vikings fan.

He is survived by his children: Justin (Dessie) Sliekers of Ankeny, Audrey (Dennis) Kerns of LaPorte City, Roseanne (John Chavez) Sliekers of Ankeny, and Laura (Ryan) Christensen of Ankeny; three grandchildren; his mom, Delores "Jean" Sliekers of Waterloo; three sisters, Teri Sliekers of Waterloo, Lynn (Mark) Knecht of Nashua, and Sarah Sliekers of Littleton; and one brother, Tyson Sliekers of Waterloo.

He is preceded in death by his dad, John Sliekers and brother, Jeff (Kim) Sliekers.

Celebration of Life Visitation will be 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, March 15, 2025, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave, Waterloo. Memorials may be directed to the family. Locke at Tower Park is assisting the family, 319-233-3146.
