Sandra Kay Bickley

Sandra Kay Bickley was born August 8, 1947, and died June 16, 2024. She was the daughter of Robert and Maizie Bickley and was an only child. Sandy was a very happy, well cared for little girl. She loved all kinds of animals. Sandy had a bold, fearless attitude at a very young age, and carried that same attitude in her journey through life.

Sandy pursued medical transcribing while in high school and began co-op work for a doctor in the Black's Building in 1965. After graduating from Waterloo West High School in 1965, she continued working as a medical transcriptionist until her retirement in 2005. Some of her jobs were at the Mayo Clinic and in Iowa City and her last one was with Allen Hospital. Sandy loved the Allen Hospital job where she was able to experience playing tennis with some very VIP opponents.

Mentioning her love for animals, I must tell a story. After retirement, Sandy would go out late at night to a wooded area and feed a mama kitty and her little ones. One time, a different set of eyes met here. It was a raccoon. She said, "it's ok honey. I will feed you, too." And she did.

A Celebration of Life will be 3-5 PM, Saturday, August 10, 2024, in the Community Room at Prairie Village, 220 Valley Drive, La Porte City.
