Stephen A. “Steve” Maurer, Jr., 92, of Waterloo, passed away Friday, June 20, 2025, at his home under Cedar Valley Hospice surrounded by his family.

He was born on January 24, 1933, son of Stephen A., Sr., and Elizabeth Eide Maurer. Steve graduated from Tripoli High School in 1950. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

Steve married Carol Ann Meyer on May 6, 1956, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tripoli; she preceded him in death on October 21, 2012.

He was a substation foreman for Iowa Public Services (IPS) for over 20 years, retiring in 1993. In his younger years he operated and was a mechanic for DX. Steve was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Waterloo and the Sons of Norway.

Steve loved NASCAR. His favorite driver was Bill Elliott, and he enjoyed traveling the NASCAR circuit. Steve spent his time traveling and dancing with Carol, visiting his grandchildren, working on cars, fishing, and telling stories.

Steve is survived by his son, Stephen Maurer, III, of Spokane, WA; daughters, Pam (Randy) Stacey of Waterloo, and Sheila (Frank) Saylor of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Sarah (Tim) Everett, Matthew Stacey, Stephen (Leah) Maurer, IV, Nicole (Kaeli) Maurer, Wes Sillman, and Colin Boyd; 10 great-grandchildren, Jaxson, Reilly, Carter, Chloe, Kaylynn, Addison, Trevor, Nolan, Mataya, and Mattix, and one sister, Betty Beach of New Hampton. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; and one sister, Hazel Kirchoff.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at a later date. Inurnment will take place at Fremont Cemetery in Tripoli. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice. Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Avenue, Waterloo, is assisting the family, 319-233-3146
