Anthony J. “Tony” Muether, 69, of Waterloo, died on Friday, April 25, 2025 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo. Tony was born on March 19, 1956 in Waterloo, the son of Alfred and Avis (Ritchie) Muether.


Tony graduated from Central High School in 1974; he earned his Associates from Kirkwood College in Cedar Rapids, and BA in English from UNI in 1994.


Tony worked at his family’s grocery store, Muether’s Super Value.


Tony was a Boy Scout and a member of Grace Reformed Church and loved to sing in the choir.


He collected Spider Man comic books and Beatles memorabilia. He enjoyed traveling to Arizona every year to help his mother at her home there.


Tony is survived by: his mother, Avis Muether of Waterloo; three sisters, Barbara (James) Bronson of Glendale, AZ, Cynthia (Chris) Fenimore of Terre Haute, IN, and Deb (James) Etringer of Waterloo; nephews, Jason Bronson, Joe (Lauren Hailmann) Bronson, and Logan Fenimore; nieces, Haley (Ed) Swartz, Meredith Fenimore, and Janay Etringer; and several great nieces and nephews.


He is preceded in death by his father.


Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 1, 2025, at Grace Reformed Church, 520 Maxwell St, Waterloo, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Waterloo. Visitation for one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be directed to American Cancer Society, Cedar Bend Humane Society, American Stroke Association.
