Donald “Don” Glenn Martin, 86, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at UnityPoint Health – Allen Hospital. He was born July 16, 1938, in Independence, son of Glenn and Ruby Martin. He graduated from Jesup High School and attended Iowa State Teacher’s College (UNI). Don worked at John Deere and then enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1961. After serving honorably for four years, he returned to work at Deere, retiring after 37 years as an Inspector.
Don married Nancy Stanfill on July 7, 1963, in Robinson, Tx. They enjoyed 61 years of marriage and raised three wonderful kids. He was a member of the Church of Christ of Cedarloo since the mid-sixties, he also mowed the lawn there for decades. His hobbies included fishing, golf, bowling, bicycling, and in his earlier years, hunting. He also liked to watch sports on TV, his favorite teams were the Chicago Cubs, and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
He is survived by his wife Nancy of Waterloo, son Rick Martin of rural Oelwein, daughters: Michelle (Aaron) Woelber of Waterloo, and Steph (Brian) Carmichael of Tripoli, grandchildren: Kayla and Joey Martin, Megan and Alex Woelber, and Banner and Riddock Knecht, six great-grandchildren, brother Bobby (Sandy) Martin of Independence, and sister Glenda (Gary) Shaffer of Jesup. He was preceded by his parents.
A visitation will be held Sunday, August 4, from 2-4:00 PM at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave, as well as one hour prior to the service at the church. The funeral service will take place Monday, August 5,at 10:30 AM, at Church of Christ of Cedarloo 3110 Loma St, Cedar Falls. The burial will take place at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery.
