Almeta Blue

Almeta Blue, 85, of Waterloo, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, August 22, 2025.

Almeta was born on January 25, 1940, in Tchula, MS, to Prince and Lillie C. (Austin) Collins. She was a 1958 graduate of Wendell Phillips High School in Chicago. Almeta married Henry McCray in 1960 in Chicago; he later preceded her in death. In August 1973, Almeta married Robert James Blue in Waterloo and spent nearly 42 years together prior to Robert’s passing on March 24, 2013.

Almeta dedicated 26 years of her life as a Medical Aide at Country View in Waterloo, retiring in 1997. Her commitment, care, and service to the community will always be remembered. She enjoyed crocheting and watching TV, especially her favorite show, Jeopardy.

She is also preceded in death by her parents, sons, Eugene McCray and Richie Blue, and sister, Willie B. Austin.

Almeta is survived by her loving family to include her daughters, Tammy (Mark) Robinson of Waterloo, Connie of CA; 4 grandchildren, Ashley McCray, Brandon McCray, Cayd McCray, and Kyle McCray; brother, Willie (Gillian) Austin of Omaha, NE; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave, Waterloo,

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at Locke at Tower Park. An additional visitation to take place one hour prior to funeral service. Burial to follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery.
