John V. “Jack” Bartlett, 87 of Waterloo, died peacefully Saturday, September 13, 2025, at the La Porte Specialty Care.

He was born March 19, 1938, in Ft. Pierre, SD, son of Amos R. and Alice M. (Keyes) Bartlett. He graduated from Blunt High School in Blunt SD. Jack attended Black Hills State University, where he played basketball. He served in the United States Marine Corp and received an honorable discharge.

Jack married Maureen A. McDermott on June 3, 1962, at the St. Anthony Claret Catholic Church in Anaheim. She died April 9, 2024. They lived in California, South Dakota, Minnesota, and Jack moved to Iowa last year after Maureen passed away.

He worked in the construction field for Kwikset and later for PenHall Company focusing on concrete. After retirement, he was a Blackjack Dealer in Deadwood, SD. and a handyman doing odd jobs. In his free time, Jack was busy carving on soap stones.

He is survived by his children: Kelly (Robert) Wiemerslage of Evansdale, and Robert (Lisa) Bartlett of Oak Park, MN; and three grandchildren: Shane (Allyson) Walters, Jacqueline (Cory Scott) Walters and Mariah Bartlett.

Jack is preceded in death by his wife, Maureen; four brothers, Robert, Wayne, Donald, and Roger; and one sister, Betty Sherwood.
