Wanda Mae Lightner Eastman, 93, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, September 18, 2024, while a patient at Wellspring Living Health Center at Friendship Village. She was born on January 9, 1931, in Iowa City, the daughter of Robert and Clara Miller Lightner. Wanda graduated from West Liberty High School in 1949 and married Forest Eastman on September 4, 1949. To this union, the couple was blessed with three sons. On September 2, 2024, Wanda celebrated their 75th Anniversary with family and friends at Wellspring.

Wanda was a homemaker. She was a wonderful wife and mother and loved her children and grandchildren dearly. She had a boundless love for babies as she welcomed each new one into her ever-growing family. Wanda especially loved Christmas and hosted family Christmas every year except one when it was prevented by bad weather. Santa Claus cookies were a family favorite. She is remembered as being a fantastic cook and spent hours creating special moments for her family to share together. Keeping her family together was her gift to them.

As the wife of the 50th President of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, Wanda had delivered a speech to the NCJFCJ helping children and families, and had traveled all over the United States and even to Edinburgh, Scotland representing the Council.

Wanda is survived by her husband of 75 years, Forest, of Waterloo; sons F. David (Susan) Eastman of Clear Lake, Kirk (Susan) Eastman of Cedar Falls, and Mike (Diane) Eastman of Shellsburg; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her siblings Robert Lightner, Audrey Bothell and Maxine Meis.

Funeral services for Wanda will be Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at 10:30 am at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave, Waterloo with burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Cedar Falls. The visitation will be Monday evening from 5-7 pm at the funeral home. Memorials should be directed to the Friendship Village Foundation.
