Sue Ellen Ellen Crum

Sue Ellen Crum, 82, of Evansdale, died Monday, July 8, 2024, at Sunrise Hill Care Center. She was born June 15, 1942, in Waterloo, daughter of Howard and Elizabeth (Bruce) Eldridge. She grew up mostly in the Des Moines area but graduated from East High School in 1961.

In 1963 she married Henry Niedert, they later divorced. On October 12, 1985, Sue Ellen married Marty Crum. She worked as a sales associate at Ben Franklin, Sams, Walmart in Cedar Falls, and was part of the opening of the Crossroads Walmart. She had also worked for the Red Cross, and at Chicago Central Credit Union. After she and Marty got their first computer, she enjoyed buying and selling items on eBay.

Sue Ellen and Marty began traveling to Florida in the winter in 1998, first just for a few weeks, then gradually longer every year. In 2010 they bought a condo in Venice and would spend October through April there. She loved everything Florida, especially collecting seashells and walking on the beach.

She is survived by her husband, Marty of Evansdale; her children Denet Hodges of Waterloo, Anne (Erick) Mandt of Cedar Falls, and Joe (Lisa) Crum of Wauwatosa, WI; her brothers Mike Eldridge of Evansdale, and Ted Eldridge of Waterloo; her sister Mary (Dennis) Eldridge-Clark of Waterloo; sisters in law Molly (Bob) Johnson of Evansdale and Edie (Steve) Van Hauen of Waterloo; grandchildren, Destany (Zach) Bowers; Rachel, James and Marcus Mandt; Oliver and Xavier Crum, and great-grandchild, Donte Bowers.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law Casey Eldridge.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, July 15, 2024, at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice. Condolences may be left at www.LockeFuneralServices.com.
