Lila Mae Hixson, 88, of Waterloo, died Monday, September 1, 2025, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home. She was born February 24, 1937, in West Union, daughter of Anson and Kathryn (Craft) Quackenbush. She graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1955.

Lila married Dale Hixson on March 23, 1956 in Waterloo, the same day he was discharged from the Army. She worked for Brownies Food Locker, Reece and Grieger Locker, Super Value, B&R Meats, the American Legion Post #138 and the Big R Store in Cedar Falls. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #138.

Earlier in life Lila enjoyed playing softball, volleyball, and bowled in women’s leagues. She enjoyed crocheting and sewing. Lila kept a good house inside and out and loved to cook and bake for everyone.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 70 years, Dale, her son Matthew Hixson of Forest City, sister Glenda (Fred) Acuff of Boone, grandchildren: Amber Sullivan and Taylor Hixson, great-grandchildren Braden and Kinlen, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters Mary Kittrell and Ruth Traeger.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Locke on 4th, 1519 West 4th Street, with visitation for one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice
