Monica Jane Edgar

Monica J. Edgar, 85, of Waterloo, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2025, at her home.

She was born on August 30, 1939, in Cherry Mound, daughter of Edward M. and Violet Sawvell Donahue. She married James G. Edgar on December 8, 1961, in Hudson; he preceded her in death on May 15, 2013.

She was a homemaker. Her family considers her a wonderful grandkid watcher and advice giver as well as “professional shopper,” and she loved to play bingo.

Monica is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Peters of Manson of Waterloo, Malinda Rigdon of Evansdale, and Mitze (Ross) Billings of Waterloo; two sons, James (Sandy) Edgar, Jr. and Jeff (Diane) Edgar, both of Waterloo; a bonus child, Maggie Edgar of Cedar Falls; four sisters, Margaret (John) Elin of Torrance, CA, Madonna Walsh of Evansdale, Maureen (Dave) Graeber, Waterloo, and Marilyn Kenney of McHenry, IL; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Jim Donahue of Waukegan, IL, and Jerry Donahue of South Carolina.

Preceded in death by parents; husband, James Edgar Sr., son, John “Jack” Edgar; two sons-in-law, Ron Rigdon and John Peters; three brothers, Edward, Joseph, and John Donahue; and three sisters, Marcella Palade, Mary Troendle, and Marjorie Trewnick.

Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with burial to follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Visitation from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30, at Locke on 4th, 1519 W. 4th Street, Waterloo. Memorials may be directed to the family. Locke on 4th is assisting the family.
