Don Malcolm Edgerton, 93, of Waterloo, died Sunday, August 25, 2024, at Wellspring Living of Friendship Village. He was born in Everett, WA on May 6, 1931, the son of Harold "Earl" and Thelma "Geneva" (Smittle) Edgerton. Don graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1950 and entered the US Navy in 1951 where he served until 1954. He was a designer at John Deere before his retirement in 1985. Don married Gwendolyn Simpson on June 3, 1955, in Waterloo at the Trinity American Lutheran Church.

Don enjoyed SCUBA diving, collecting John Deere model tractors and equipment, baseball hats, and US Navy ships and planes. He was active with the Red Cross, YWCA, YMCA, John Deere Supervisor's Club, and PADI. He was the cofounder and president of the Cedar Valley Underwater Search and Recovery Unit. Don was an active member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Waterloo.

Don is survived by his wife, Gwen, of Waterloo; daughter, Paula Edgerton Cygan of Waterloo; six grandchildren, Whitney (Matt) Schwartz of Lakeville, MN, Haley (Dan) Schroeder of Prior Lake, MN, Chase (Hannah) Leverington of Centerville, MN, Meredith (Isaiah) Iverson of Northwood, IA, Courtney Houston of Buckeye, Arizona and Matthew Houston of Littleton, Colorado; and seven great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela Houston.

Funeral Services will be 10:30am Thursday, September 5, 2024, at the Ascension Lutheran Church (2211 Maynard Ave, Waterloo).

Burial will be 2:00pm Thursday, September 5, 2024, in the Garden of Memories Cemetery with military rites by the United States Navy.

Visitation will be 4:30 to 7:00pm Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at Locke at Tower Park (4140 Kimball Ave).

Memorials may be directed to the Ascension Lutheran Church, and the Parkinson's Foundation.
