Allen David Frank

Allen Frank, 81, of Gilbertville, formerly of Waterloo, died Tuesday, August 27, 2024. He was born November 9, 1942, in Howard County, son of Otto and Irene (McCarville) Frank. Allen married Helen Haskovec on June 4, 1966, in Lourdes. He honorably served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1967 as an information communication specialist. He retired from John Deere after 34 years and was proud to wear green and yellow. He farmed for many years with his brothers outside of Riceville, IA.

Allen liked to spend time with his family, especially watching his grandkids in sports and their activities. He enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes with a cold can of Diet Pepsi and a Pizza Hut Pizza. A good black and white John Wayne movie was always on repeat. He had an infectious laugh, especially when watching a good comedy movie.

Most people knew of him being a man with very few words, but his family always knew how he was feeling with his infamous self-inflicted “head slap”. Allen was a humble man who never complained. He had a strong work ethic, the biggest heart, and was always willing to help family and friends when in need.

Allen is survived by his wife, Helen, his daughter, Melissa (Mark) Frank Hanssen of Eldridge, and son, Brian (Kate) Frank of Marion, his grandchildren: Paige, Lauren, and Cella Hanssen, and Ava and Cole Frank, siblings Lucille, Kenneth, and Edith. He was preceded in death by ten siblings.

A memorial visitation will be held Wednesday, September 4, 2024, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave. Private committal will take place at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the family, as a donation will be made to Columbus High School, in his honor.
