Lois Ruth Gump Griffith, 91, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at UnityPoint Allen Hospital. She was born in Mason City, IA, on September 27, 1932, the daughter of William and Josephine Hestness Gump. Lois attended school in Mason City and graduated in 1950. She married Richard Griffith on July 6, 1951, in Oakdale, IA, and the couple was blessed with three children. Lois worked in food service for the Waterloo Community School District, where she retired in 1996.
Lois loved her children and grandchildren deeply. She had many traditions with her grandchildren, including a coin collection, scrap book and quilt, that each treasures. She enjoyed genealogy and loved learning of her family heritage. Lois also enjoyed raising blooming plants and has a poinsettia plant that is almost ten years old. Baking cookies and cinnamon rolls, knitting, embroidery and crafts were some of Lois' hobbies, especially crafts for church bazaars. Lois was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Waterloo and had been active with their Sarah Circle, where she had also served as treasurer. And who can forget the family get togethers each and every Christmas?
Lois is survived by her children, Catherine (Keith) Smith of Waterloo, Karen (Kevin) DeSerano of Evansdale and Eric (Janae) Griffith of Ankeny; grandchildren Jennifer (Derek Mead) Jensen, Thomas Westendorf, Amy (Jeremey) Stevens, Leah Smith, Adam Smith, Bradley (Liz) DeSerano, Jordan DeSerano, Kelli (Marshall Mihm) DeSerano, Danielle (Reis) Meanwell, Cameron (Rachel) Griffith and Quincy Griffith; great grandchildren Jocelyn, Fletcher, Chase, Chloe, Mayson, Natalie, Neela, Peter, Gregory, Nicholas, Emilia and Avery; and many other family members and friends.
