Wesley "Wes" Darrell Hawkins, 90, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, September 1, 2023, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home. He was born on December 24, 1932, in Eau Claire, WI, the 5th child of 12 born to James Byron and Virginia Sadie Mae Kelly Hawkins. Wes married Marion Irene Ingles in Eau Claire on December 24, 1954, and the couple was blessed with 7 children. He worked at various plants with John Deere in Waterloo and served in the United States Air Force from 1950-1953. Wes used to joke that he joined the Air Force to see the world and made it as far as Texas and South Dakota.
Wes was a hardworking, family man. Coming from a large family and then having a large family of his own, Wes enjoyed family time. He was a sarcastic, funny man with a boisterous laugh. Wes loved serving people at his church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Wes is survived by his wife Marion of Cedar Falls; sons Andrew (Crystal) Hawkins of Theodore, AL, and Edward (Melani) Hawkins of Cedar Falls; daughters Linda (Randy) Wilson of Waterloo, Annette (Josh) Galloway of Cheney, KS, Virginia Haugh of Charles City, IA, and Sara (Dallas) Barnhurst of Fredonia, AZ; daughter-in-law Karna Hawkins of Kearns, UT; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; brothers Don (Sue) Hawkins of Eau Claire, WI and Robert Steven (Carol) Hawkins of Osseo, WI; and many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Mark; brothers Byron, Marvin "Cork", Albert "Hap", James, Joseph, Willis "Bill", and Delmar Hawkins; and sisters Gwendolyn "Teck" Barneson and Lavonna Thompson.
Funeral services for Wes will be Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 11:00 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 3006 Pleasant Drive, Cedar Falls, IA, with a time of visitation an hour prior to the service. Interment with military honors will be at Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo, IA. Memorial contributions should be directed to the family.
