John Stapella, 58, of Grundy Center, died August 12, 2025, at his home, of natural causes.
He was born March 20, 1967, in Waterloo, son of Stanley and Ellen (Lynch) Stapella. After graduating from Columbus High School in 1985, he took classes at Hawkeye Institute of Technology and earned his CDL license. He worked as a truck driver and contract painter.
John was a jokester who could talk to anyone. He was very sociable and outgoing. John enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren playing games and having family dinners.
He was a jack of all trades and could help with any home improvement project. He was meticulous about his lawn and landscaping.
He is survived by his daughters: Alex Stapella of Grundy Center and Valerie (Kris) Hack of Cedar Falls; grandchildren: Rhiannon and Audrey McGeough, and Olivia, Nolan and Jagger Hack; his dad Stanley Stapella; siblings: Paul (Liz) Stapella, Laurie (Russ) Reicherts, Steven (Lisa) Stapella, James (Beverly) Stapella, and Mary (Eric) Lothe; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved cats Lucy and Sequoia.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ellen.
