Jacob Stevenson, 22, of Waterloo, died unexpectedly in his sleep on Saturday, August 2, 2025. He was born July 24, 2003, son of Mark and Phyllis (Odbert) Stevenson. He graduated from Waterloo West High School in 2021 where he enjoyed playing football and singing in the chorus. He then graduated from Hawkeye Institute of Technology, where he earned a degree in Tool and Die.
Jacob liked doing things with his hands, which is why being a CNC machinist suited him so well, and he excelled at Criterion Manufacturing. He was also a member of Heartland Vinyard Church, were he ran the Snack Shack and took it very seriously, and he enjoyed playing video games with friends.
Jacob was truly a gentle giant, known for giving great hugs. He was a kind person who passionately loved and took care of his friends and family. Fairness mattered to him, and he would always stand up for what was right. These qualities left a lasting impact on many lives.
He is survived by his parents: Mark and Phyllis, and sister Izabel, all of Waterloo; his maternal grandmother, Pung Cha Odbert; uncle, Frank Odbert; aunts Mary Ann Odbert and Laurie Stevenson; and cousin, John Bohls. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Francis Odbert Sr.; and paternal grandparents Linda Belken and Jerry Stevenson.
A memorial service will take place at 11:30 AM Friday, August 8, 2025, at Heartland Vineyard Church, Waterloo, visitation from 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM prior to the service, also at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family. Locke at Tower Park is assisting the family, 319-233-3146.
