Susan Jean Tomkins, 71, of Waterloo, passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at MercyOne Medical Center-Waterloo.

Susan was born on September 7, 1953, in Waterloo, to Everett D. “Bud” and Kathleen (Primmer) Smith. She graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1971. Susan married Curtis F. Tomkins on November 25, 1977, in Waterloo; he preceded her in death on February 2, 2025.

Susan worked for 10 years at Birch Cabinet, however her greatest joy was being home raising her family. Susan cherished her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is also preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter, Klarissa Wildeboer-Tomkins, and sister, Sheryl Smith.

Susan is survived by her son, Curtis (Nicke) Tomkins of Waterloo; daughter, Christine Tomkins-Mullen of Washington, DC; brothers, Dwight Smith of Cedar Falls and Daniel (Vicki) Smith of Varna, IL; 5 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave., Waterloo. Private family inurnment took place at Garden of Memories Cemetery-Waterloo.
