Raymond “Ray” Scoles Jr, 86, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home. He was born September 20, 1938, in Waterloo, son of Raymond Sr. and Gwen (Rose) Scoles. Ray married Margaret Kuriger on September 26, 1959, in Waterloo. They enjoyed 57 years of marriage until Margaret’s death July 11, 2016.
Ray worked in the foundry at John Deere for 31 years. He enjoyed life and was a dedicated father and husband. He was a very hard worker, but also enjoyed fishing, golfing, the casino, and watching Gunsmoke and Judge Judy. He spent many days at the golf course with a group of fellow retirees and later met them there for coffee. He had many beloved dogs throughout the years, most recently Bear, who he would prepare and cook meals for. Above all, family was the most important to him.
He is survived by his sons: Carl (Barbara) Scoles of Elk Run Heights, Randy (Pam) Scoles of Littleton, CO, Raymond Scoles, III of Waterloo; grandchildren: Carrie Copley, Randy Scoles II, April Ramsey, Amy Strempke, and Ashley Scoles; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother Ronald (Cam hoa) Scoles of CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother James Scoles, and sister Judy Riley.
Visitation will be held 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM Monday, June 2, 2025, at Locke at Tower Park, with a Rosary service starting at 6:30. Funeral will be held Tuesday, June 3, starting at 9:30 AM, at Locke at Tower Park with visitation also one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Garden of Memories Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.
