January 23, 1948 May 10, 2025

Neil William Kahn, Jr., 77, passed away on May 10, 2025, at Pinnacle Specialty Care due to complications of a spinal stroke.

Neil was born January 23, 1948, in rural New Hampton, IA, to the late Neil William Kahn, Sr. and Elva Marie (White) Kahn. Neil attended Richmond Country School until the 7th grade and graduated from New Hampton Community School District in 1966. He went on to attend Iowa State University before settling in Waterloo in 1968. Neil married Julianne Gardner on April 12, 1969.

Neil was employed with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, retiring in 2000. Following retirement, he pursued his passion for golf by opening Neil's Golf Shop. A man with a zest for life, his daughter affectionately called him a "real superhero." Over the years, Neil enjoyed a variety of interests including drag racing with the "Budget Breaker" and "Warhorse" teams, boating, and skiing on the Mississippi River, serving as a Cub Scout Leader, bowling, RC racing with his son, fly-in fishing trips to Canada, and his motorcycles, snowmobiles, and 4-wheelers.

He treasured his Sunday drives with Julianne and their beloved dogs, Oliver, Angel-Bella, and Bodie. Whatever he took on, Neil embraced with enthusiasm.

Neil is preceded in death by his nephews, Reed Holland and Daniel Budweg, and brother-in-law, Dennis Paul.

Neil is survived by his wife, Julianne of Waterloo; daughter, Rachel Michele (Amanda Martin) Kahn of Encinitas, CA; son, Brian Gardner Kahn of Waterloo; 5 sisters, Sherryl Paul and Karen Kahn of Charles City, Evelyn Budweg, and Mary (Curt) Reisner of New Hampton, and Kimberly (Amy Charnley) Havens of Omaha, NE; as well as many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
