Scott Arthur McRoberts

Scott Arthur McRoberts

May 21, 1966 February 4, 2025

Scott Arthur McRoberts, 58, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, February 4, 2025, in Des Moines because of complications resulting from an automobile accident that occurred on December 18, 2024. He was born in Waterloo on May 21, 1966, the son of John and Betty McRoberts. Scott married Kathleen Aschbrenner (George) on August 14, 2004, and worked as a loadout operator for Tyson Fresh Meats in Waterloo.

Scott was a man of simple pleasures, known for his love of fishing, working on cars, enjoying a good cigar, and occasional beer. He was happiest surrounded by family, especially his grandkids-Noah, Jacob, and Addison-who always knew how to bring out the soft side of his "grumpy old man" persona. He was known for fussing about nearly everything, yet he always went above and beyond to do anything anyone asked of him. Scott loved his ketchup (he put it on just about everything) and was obsessed with the Weather Channel, often keeping his family up to date on the latest forecasts. In fact, he considered himself quite the amateur meteorologist, even if his theories were sometimes more "out there" than the average forecast.

A self-proclaimed conspiracy theorist and paranormal enthusiast was captivated by all things haunted–ghosts, mysterious places, and eerie, abandoned houses, always drawn to the thrill of the unknown. He spent hours immersed in his favorite YouTube channels, Omargosh and Adventures with Purpose, feeding his curiosity. Though he often joked that he was more of a "Scrooge" (Ba-humbug!) when it came to the holidays, his tough exterior couldn't hide his true nature. Despite his grumpy exterior, Scott had a heart of gold and would always be the first to help out when someone needed it.

Scott had a deep love for music, especially rock 'n roll. Music was always a constant companion, whether he was cranking up his favorite tunes while at work, in the car, or relaxing at home. His passion for rock music was a key part of who he was, making every moment feel alive and adding an extra layer of energy to his larger-than-life personality.

Scott had a genuine love for cooking and grilling, but his enthusiasm for eating really stood out, often giving him the title of "an endless pit." His famous potato salad was a must at every family gathering, and he'd jokingly claim he wouldn't be invited without it. His enthusiasm for food was matched only by his unwavering work ethic. Scott was a hard worker and the solid support his family could always count on, often called the one who kept everything together. His strength, loyalty, and love were the foundation of everything they valued.

Scott is survived by his wife, Kathleen; his children, Shane Aschbrenner and Kayla (Jordan) Leyh, both of Waterloo; his grandchildren, Noah Aschbrenner, Jacob Quint, and Addison Leyh; and many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Betty McRoberts.
