David Lavern Weidman

David L. "Dave" Weidman, 77, of Waterloo, died on Friday, September 13, 2024, at UnityPoint Health – Allen Hospital, Waterloo.

He was born April 30, 1947, in Waterloo, the son of Raymond and Mary (Koch) Weidman. He graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1966. He married Susan Christensen on May 10, 1969, at St. John's Catholic Church in Waterloo.

Dave worked in the foundry at John Deere for 25 years, retiring in 1999.

He was a member of UAW Local 838, and a member of the Waterloo Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 764, where he also played on the softball team. He coached football and wrestling at St. Mary's School for many years and was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Bears. He also enjoyed collecting football cards. Dave enjoyed being outside. Many special memories were made in the back yard of the family home where he built a swimming pool and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Weidman of Waterloo; three children, Jackie Mervin-West, James "Jim" (Trinette) Weidman, and Jennifer (Greg VanErem) Weidman, all of Waterloo; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three siblings, Christina (Mike) Beener of Maryland, Lynda (Bob) Livingston, and Danny (Peggy) Weidman, both of Waterloo.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, and a daughter, Joan Weidman.

Memorial services at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at Locke on 4th, 1519 West 4th Street, Waterloo. Visitation for one hour prior to services. Memorials may be directed to the family.
