Micky L. "Mick" Shelton, 63, of Waterloo, died unexpectedly on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at MercyOne Waterloo Medical Center.

She was born August 24, 1960, in Waterloo, daughter of Jack and Dorothy (Broughton) Broell. She graduated from Expo High School in 1978 and attended Hawkeye Tech for classes in teaching and photography.

Mick married William "Bill" Shelton on August 23, 1986, in Waterloo. Over the years Mick worked at many places, including at Kinder Care, Expo High School, Mowatt Photography, Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church (Waterloo), and Friendship Village. She also owned and operated S & H Vending. She ran a state-registered daycare out of her home when her daughters were young so she could stay home with them, and also provided care for many other children. Most recently, she worked at Lou Henry Elementary School as a paraeducator.

She previously attended Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. She also loved dogs, of which she had many over the years. When she wasn't caring for her dogs or her family, she was tending to her house plants which included an elaborate mixture of cacti and succulents. Most of all, Mick loved being a grandma to her grandson, Niko.

Mick is survived by her husband, Bill Shelton of Waterloo; two daughters, Keeley (Joseph) Lobato of Colorado Springs, CO, and Marnie (Sean Anderson) Shelton of Waterloo; her grandson, Niko Lobato of Colorado Springs; and her sister, Cathleen Webber of Waterloo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Marcia Broell; and a brother, Michael Broell.

A celebration of life gathering will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 28, 2024, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Avenue, Waterloo.
