Leora Ketchens Sallis, 79, of Waterloo, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, August 16, 2024, at Mercy One Medical Center-Waterloo.

Leora was born on June 3, 1945, in Pickens, MS, to L.D. and Mary Ellen (Madison) Ketchens. She graduated from Linwood High School in 1963. Leora married John H. Sallis, Jr. on January 6, 1984, in Preston, MN, and they later divorced. Leora worked as a teacher's aide at Hawthorne Elementary School, retiring early due to health reasons. She worked at Black's and Donaldson's Department Stores. Leora was a devote Christian, serving the Lord as an Evangelist Missionary for many years and was a longtime member of Antioch Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, sister, Lucille Madison, and brothers, Willie, Thomas, John Henry, and Emory Ketchens.

Leora is survived by her son, Rodney Ketchens; grandchildren, Derek Moon, and Simone Ketchens; great-grandson, Kingston Moon; siblings, Earsie Ketchens, Elizabeth Levy, Eula Reed, Shirley Dorsey, and Linda Madison; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation and Service: Family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 23, 2024, at Antioch Baptist Church, 426 Sumner St, Waterloo, followed by the Service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
