R. Kent Kent Standish

R. Kent Standish, 94, of Waterloo, died on Friday, October 4, 2024, at Westbrook Acres Care Center in Gladbrook.

He was born on August 10, 1930, in Waterloo, the son of Ralph and LaRue (Jessup) Standish. He graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1948 and served in the United States Navy.

Kent married Ann H. Wilharm on October 3, 1953, in Waterloo; she preceded him in death on July 8, 2016.

He owned and operated Standish Mineral for many years. He and Ann also managed Southgate Manor for 16 years.

Kent was a 40-plus-year member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Waterloo. He was also an active member of Waterloo Elks Club BPO 290 where he enjoyed playing cards over the years. Kent enjoyed summers at the lake in Minnesota for many years.

He is survived by his children, Kim Standish of Waterloo, and Rick (Renee) Standish of Dallas, TX; five grandchildren, Katy, Elizabeth (Kevin) Weisenberger, Megan, Nicholas, and Emily Standish; and one great-grandson.

Kent was preceded in death by his parents and wife; and a son, Craig Standish.
