Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Price

Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Price

June 3, 1936 March 29, 2026

Elizabeth “Betty” Meier Price, 89, of Ankeny, died on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at Harmony West Des Moines under the care of Suncrest Hospice. The family would like to thank them for their care given.

Betty was born on June 3, 1936, at the Tripoli Hospital to the late Harvey and Lily (Wehling) Meier. She was raised in Denver and graduated in 1953. This class included well over 20 members, but under 25. According to “The Cyclone” 1953 edition, Betty was active with the annuals humor department, along with one other classmate. The role served her well for the remainder of her life.

She married Donald Price on September 12, 1954, at St. Paul’s Evangelical and Reformed Church in Denver. Donald was living at the Waterloo YMCA and working at Borden’s Ice Cream. Betty was employed at the Black Hawk Abstract Co. in Waterloo. The couple celebrated 68 years together before his death on March 30, 2023.

The couple’s first child, Bradley, was born on November 6, 1957. Their second child, Thomas, was born on May 21, 1962. Betty focused on raising her children with all her time and energy during their childhood years. She returned to the workforce at John Deere in 1974, working full-time in the office. She retired after 22 years, on August 30, 1996.

Her retirement brought on Arizona winters and Iowa summers. Betty and Donald resided in Sun City during their Arizona getaways. They got together with long-time, and newer friends to cheer on the Iowa Hawkeyes at some of the local establishments. Go Hawks! Their children often visited in March, along with Bradley’s wife, Judy. This resulted in frequent shopping trips to Sedona. Spring training baseball games were also a must-see event. The Chicago White Sox made it way too easy, when they left Tucson and moved to Camelback Ranch in nearby Glendale. They could be there in about 10 minutes and there were always great seats available. Go Sox! The real March Madness was always the family bocce ball festivities. There were hard-fought battles that could linger on for hours. These family bocce ball outings helped prepare Betty and Don for competition in Arizona senior events. Betty, Donald, and another couple were victorious during their initial bocce ball tournament. They outlasted 17 other teams. Win or lose, fun was always had, and they enjoyed the atmosphere of these gatherings.

Betty and Donald moved to Ankeny in 2016 to be closer to family. She continued to stay active playing bocce ball, while adding Mah Jongg to her schedule. She enjoyed meeting her new friends in Ankeny. Cooking and sewing were a couple of her passions, with perfection always being the standard. Her Christmas cookies were anticipated by family and friends weeks prior to arriving. If you were lucky, she would offer you the rare “reject” which hadn’t passed quality control standards.

Betty is survived by her sons, Dr. Bradley (Judy) Price of Marshalltown, along with Thomas of Ankeny.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; parents; and brother, Robert Meier. The family asks that memorial donations be directed to the Waterloo First United Methodist Church. The family will host a visitation at Locke at Tower Park in Waterloo, on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Betty’s funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Locke at Tower Park in Waterloo. Burial will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Denver.

Betty’s steady guidance and inspiration will live on. She truly is: THE NORTH ST★R.
