Milton E. Hartley, beloved Dad, Grandpa, and Great Grandpa, passed into the arms of Christ Jesus on April 10, 2021 at the age of 95. He was a strong man who challenged himself to live a life centered on his family. He enjoyed family gatherings and interacting with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Born in Laurens, Iowa to Netta "Marie" (Ashenbrenner) and Charles "Ivan" Hartley on September 5, 1925. He attended Country School at Laurens Consolidated and graduated from North High Consolidated in Des Moines. After graduation, he worked on a road crew in Laurens and Des Moines. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps as a Navigator and received an honorable discharge upon completion of service. He attended Iowa State University, the "Udder U", and graduated with an Industrial Engineering Degree. He worked at the Waterloo Rath Packing Company 15 years and then Waterloo Industries 25 years retiring in 1992.
He first met his future wife, Della Viola Richardson when he was 7 and she was 5 as she hid behind her Mother, hanging onto her Mother's skirt, and peeking to see who was entering her home. They reunited after he returned from the Army being introduced by his brother, Charles. They wed on September 4, 1946 and produced a brood of children, Patricia, Michele, Cynthia, Bill, and Kevin Eighmey.
Survived by: two sons, William Hartley of Elk Run Heights and Kevin (Rina) Eighmey of Mount Juliet, TN; two daughters, Michele (Mark) Wilson of Evansdale and Cynthia Holloway of Elk Run Heights; 10 grandchildren, Amber, Chad, Michael B., Melissa, Stacie, Darcie, Brooke, Ashley, Dannielle, Harley and Michael E.; many great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Alice Hansen of Bishop, TX; two brothers, Lawrence (Leann) Hartley of Ft. Dodge and John (Ardy) Hartley of New Nuevo, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by: his wife and parents; a daughter, Patricia Hansen; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Hartley and Dawn Hansen; two great-grandsons, Thomas and Joseph Hansen; a brother, Charles Hartley and a sister, Muriel Vierow.
