Lois M. Fleming, 92, of Friendship Village, died at home on Monday, January 15, 2007.

She was born January 24, 1914, in Earlville, Iowa, the daughter of Philip and Eva Rector Cloud. Born in Earlville but raised in Manchester, Lois’s father operated his own auto dealership and her mother had a tourist lodge next door to their home.

Lois graduated from Manchester High School in 1932 and received her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls in 1934. Her first teaching position was in Oneida, Iowa, where she taught for two years. She married Francis R. Fleming on June 12, 1935, in Manchester, Iowa, having met him in 1933 while at a girl’s camp at Lake Delhi. Francis died November 21, 2004. For most of her married life Lois took care of their four children Phillip, John, Ruth and David. In 1963 she renewed her teaching certificate at UNI and then taught 3rd grade at Dunkerton School for ten years, retiring in 1974.

Lois and Francis traveled to Europe twice. They also vacationed in Alaska and the Hawaiian Islands. They were both avid rock hounds. Lois enjoyed genealogy. She wrote three booklets about her family history in 1985 and they were published.

Lois is survived by daughter Ruth and her husband Jim Kroneman of Madison, Wisconsin; son Phil and his wife Verle of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina; son John of Minneapolis, Minnesota; son David and his wife Mary of Mazeppa, Minnesota; and seven grandchildren: Mark (Jennifer) Fleming, Alisha (Allen) Roberts; Barry Fleming; Melinda (Nathan) Thomas; Brian (Kelly) Kroneman; Jennifer (David) Harvey; and Erik (Bryn) Fleming; two great-granddaughters: Quinn Rose Harvey and Kaitlyn Fleming; and sister Eva Burbridge of Pacific Grove, California.

She is preceded in death by her husband; four brothers: Marion, Robert, James, and infant John; and sister Vanita Rizer.
