Dorothy Ann Hamilton, 86, of Evansdale, passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home, in Waterloo.

She was born June 7, 1940, in Troy Mills, daughter of Earl and Bertha Leopold Avis. Dorothy graduated from Troy Mills High School. She married Joseph Hamilton on August 21, 1965, in Waterloo; he preceded her in death on October 28, 2008.

Dorothy was a homemaker and mother. She enjoyed spending her time reading books, quilting, and playing Sudoku.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Victoria “Vicky” (Andrew Ebert) Hamilton of Toledo; son, Lawrence (Karen) Hamilton of Yorkville, IL, grandchildren, Alexander (Brittney Higgins) Hamilton of Kileen, TX, and Brandon (Adrienne) Hamilton of Norfolk, N.C., great-grandchildren, Hailey Parker, and Graylnn Baker, and twins on the way; one sister, Marjorie Neunkirk of Waterloo; one brother, Paul (Linda) Avis of Cedar Falls; and step-siblings, Lester Avis, Leonard Avis, and Maxine Avis.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph; and siblings, Loyd Avis, Mary McNamara, Marie Lou, Rose Marie, and Walter Avis

Funeral Services: 10:30 AM Monday, October 5, 2026, at Locke Garden View Chapel, 3655 Logan Ave., with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, both in Waterloo.

Visitation: 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM, Sunday, October 4, 2026 at Locke Garden View Chapel.
