James D. Neebel, 98, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at his home. He was born April 23, 1923 in Waterloo, son of Roscoe C. and Elizabeth (Reints) Neebel. He graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1941 and attended Wartburg College. Jim served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He married Dorothy Caughron on November 26, 1944 in Waterloo; she died April 17, 2010.

Jim worked for John Deere P.E.C., retiring as a Senior Designer in 1984. He was a Charter Member of Ascension Lutheran Church, past Vice President and taught adult Bible studies through the years. Jim was baptized at St. Luke's English Lutheran Church in Waterloo on June 3, 1923 and confirmed March 21, 1937 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterloo. He enjoyed buying and selling antiques with his wife and woodworking.

Jim is survived by his daughters, Kathy Gleason of Waterloo and Rebecca (Ron) Nargang of Burnsville, MN; a son, Michael Neebel of Mesa, AZ; 5 grandchildren: James (Doraine) Gleason, Jeff (Lisa) Gleason, Brandy (Peter) Fay, Jennifer (John) Chernega and Sarah (Brent Meyer) Nargang; 13 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; an infant daughter, Dorothy; grandson, Dana Neebel; 4 brothers: Roscoe, William, Roger and Richard Neebel; and sisters, Elizabeth Kelly and Virginia Merrill.

His primary focus in life was his faith and family. He played an active part in his family's lives and was dearly loved by us all.
