John Lyons Sr.

John L. “Johnny” Lyons Sr., 75, of Waterloo died at Cedar Valley Hospice Home on Saturday, April 28, 2007, of cancer.

He was born February 7, 1932, in Waterloo, the son of John and Bertha Clendenan Lyons.

Johnny married Darlene Holman in 1953 in Waterloo; they were later divorced. He later married Vicki Sherwood.

He worked as a foreman for Fuller Roofing Company for 35 years, retiring in 1993.

Everybody liked Johnny; he was known as quite the jokester. You always knew where you stood with him. And if he liked you, he would do anything for you. He enjoyed fishing every day and if you drove over the 18th St. bridge at 5:00 am, there he would be… fishing.

Johnny is survived by wife Vicki, daughter Debbie Shepard and her husband Wayne of Grundy Center, daughter Tracy Laws and her husband Eric of Waterloo, son John and his wife Karen of Waverly, son Frank and his wife Pat of Cedar Falls, son Tim and his wife Diane of Federal Way, Washington, son Tony of Waterloo, son Tom Sherwood and his wife Elise of Waterloo, seventeen grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Frank and Clarence.
