Mabel M. Holdiman, 91, of Friendship Village died at Allen Memorial Hospital on Sunday, August 31, 2008.

Mabel Marie was born August 2, 1917, in Lester Township (Dunkerton), Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Audra (Jones) Brown.

She graduated from Dunkerton High School in 1934 and attended Normal School at Iowa State Teacher’s College.

Mabel married Floyd Holdiman on June 15, 1941 at First Baptist Church in Dunkerton. He died January 2, 2000.

Mabel taught school for ten years; teaching five years at Union Township, three years with Bennington Township #1 and #6, and then for two years substituting at Orange Township. She also was the secretary for 14 years with the Hudson Community Schools working at the junior high and high schools, retiring in 1981.

She and her husband joined South Waterloo Church of the Brethren in 1951; previously she taught Sunday School at Dunkerton Baptist Church. She was the Brethren Church Historian, member of the Women of the Church, past president of the Home Builders Group and belonged to Women’s Sewing. She and Floyd had also volunteered with Meals on Wheels. Mabel and Floyd loved to travel and they visited every state in the continental United States. Mabel had enjoyed making her and her children’s clothes.

She is survived by sons Dr. Dale R. Holdiman and his wife Barbara of Sioux City, Iowa and Gordon L. Holdiman and his wife Diane of Ballwin, Missouri; five grandchildren: Kristine Mucher and her husband Nathan, Julie Romero and her husband Michael, Laurie Holdiman, Christopher Holdiman, and Cory Holdiman; two great grandchildren Lauren and Brinton Mucher of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; and sister Maxine Hausman of Oelwein, Iowa.
