Marie Christensen, 71 of Waterloo, Iowa, died at Cedar Valley Hospice Home Wednesday on May 28, 2014.

She was born November 30, 1942 in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Marjorie Strub Daringer. She attended Waterloo schools: Whittier, West Jr., and West High School.

Marie married Donald L. Christensen on September 1, 1960; they later divorced.

Marie worked as a teacher associate, library assistant, study hall monitor and in the cafeteria for the Waterloo school district. She had been president of Parents Without Partners (1977-78).

She enjoyed visiting family in Hudson, Sioux City and LeMars. Marie was very proud of her home and also took pride in her appearance when she went out. She liked to read as well as play cards and belonged to several card clubs. Marie possessed a strong work ethic. She was very intelligent, fiercely independent, kind-hearted and overcame adversity in her life.

She is survived by her son Eric of Waterloo; granddaughter Lauren of Waterloo; grandson Cole of Orange County, California; great-grandchildren: TaNaya Burt and Jakerion Guyton, both of Waterloo; sisters: Linda Potter and Elizabeth Wyant; and brother Douglas Daringer. She was preceded by her parents and daughter Tamera Christensen Mauer.
