Orville J. Newsome, 80, of Waterloo, died on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Ravenwood Specialty Care in Waterloo.
He was born on November 11, 1943, in Des Moines, the son of Orville and Nellie (Mehalovich) Newsome. He attended Cedar Falls High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1963 during the Vietnam War and served until his honorable discharge in 1968.
Orville married Jaqueline L. Hayes on August 11, 1966, in Hudson; she preceded him in death June 24, 2008. Orville was an assembler at Waterloo Industries for 25 years. He also worked at IBP for 2 years and Omega Cabinets for over 3 years. During his time at Waterloo Industries, he was a proud member of the labor union. Over the years, Orville enjoyed working on model cars, walking his dog, as well as crossword and jigsaw puzzles.
He is survived by his children, James Newsome and Melissa Mims, both of Waterloo; 4 grandchildren, Jason, Amy, Marcus, and Justin; a brother, Mike Newsome of Cedar Rapids; and a sister, Jodi Bails of Des Moines.
Orville is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jaqueline; a grandson, John Newsome; a son-in-law, John Mims; and a sister, Louise Heckroth.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at Locke Garden View Chapel, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo, where military rites will be conducted by Evansdale AMVETS Post #31 and Iowa Army National Guard funeral honor guard. Visitation from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at Locke Garden View Chapel, Waterloo. Memorials may be directed to the family. Condolences may be left at www.LockeFuneralServices.com.
