Robert Wright, 77, departed this life on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at the home of his daughter, ReShonda Young.
Mr. Wright was born on April 10, 1946, at the family home in Durant, Mississippi. He was the second son of Sanders Dee and Rillie Buford (Gilliam) Wright, Sr. In 1964, he graduated high school from Lexington Attendance Center, in Lexington, Mississippi. In August of the same year, he migrated to Waterloo, Iowa, with his (twin but not really) sister and her husband, Henry and Senora Wallican, Sr.
He married Robel Young in 1978, at Mount Calvary Baptist Church. She became his loving primary caregiver until his transition. Mrs. Wright is to be commended for her constant companionship and loving care during his time. She was never too far from him when he called on her to rub and hold his hand.
Mr. Wright retired from John Deere Engine Works in 2005 after 39 years of service. He was employed as a machinist. He was a member of The St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church where he was one of the first two deacons.
He left a legacy among his family as a man of few words, an outstanding son, a great big brother, a loving husband, an awesome outstanding uncle, a faithful dad, and a trusted friend. His peaceful demeanor always left you feeling calm. His footprint will be missed within our family circle.
Mr. Wright's promotion to glory leaves behind his faithful, loving wife, Robel; daughters ReShonda-Waterloo (other co-primary caregiver), Pamela Harris-New Baltimore, Michigan, and Shanel Rayford-Detroit, Michigan; sons Lorenzo, Perry, and Shannon-Detroit, Michigan; his grandchildren and two great-grandsons; siblings Senora (Henry) Wallican, Sr.-Waterloo, Adden Moore-Waukegan, Illinois, James (Marcella)-Waterloo, Sanders (Renita)-Waterloo, Annette (Clarence) Newman-Vaiden, Mississippi, Gloria Patterson-Canton, Mississippi, Perrymon (Caroline)-Canton, Mississippi; special friend Peter Anderson; special sister-in-law Louella Brown; special great-nephews Ceonte Brown and Caronte Grayer; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Mary (J. C.) Anderson, Dora (Lonnie) Moore, and Curtis (Bobbie) Wright.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
