Darlleen "Toddie" Mae Shader, 92, formerly of Waterloo, died Sunday, October 6, 2024, at Maple Manor Village in Aplington. She was born August 21, 1932, in Waterloo, daughter of Arthur and Nova (Lee) Fairbanks. She lived in Waterloo her entire life, graduating from East High School in 1950, and attended Gates Business School.
She married Paul James Shader in 1950, they later divorced. Together they had 9 children: Paul, Melony, Cynthia "Cyndee", Christine, Kent, Carmen, Mary, and twins Tony and Terry.
Darlleen worked in the Waterloo Community Schools from 1949-1951, and later had a home day care, taking care of many children through her lifetime. She enjoyed gardening and all flowers, old Western movies, reading, expressing her opinions on Facebook, and computer games. She especially enjoyed family get togethers, and playing with her grand and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children: Melony Shader of Lake City, Christine Tyler of Waterloo, Carmen (Kevin) MacDonald of Waterloo, Mary (Don) George of Waterloo, Tony (Kelly) Shader of Waterloo, and Terry (Sue) Shader of Waterloo, daughter-in-law Jeanne Shader of Ellsworth; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren
Darlleen was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Cyndee Bernard, sons Paul and Kent Shader, her sister Colleen Knoop, and son-in-law Rick Tyler.
