Marlin J. Behrends, 82, of 1625 Baltimore Street, Waterloo, died Friday, September 24, 2004, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home. He was born May 11, 1922, in Aplington, Iowa, the son of Claus and Etta Brower Behrends. He married Frances Wilson on January 25, 1943, and she died February 14, 1997. He later married Rose J. Marchese on April 8, 1998, in Waterloo.

Mr. Behrends attended school in Aplington and was employed by John Deere in Waterloo until his retirement in 1985. He also served in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife of Waterloo; a stepson, Joseph Michael (Judy) Marchese of Dumont; two stepdaughters, Mary Ann (Patrick) Moore of Waterloo and Mindy Lee (Michael) Stiner of Tully, New York; several stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Warren (Tina) Behrends of Traer; and a sister, Margaret (Bill) Gifford of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Claus Behrends, and a sister, Grace Bleeker.
