Charles Alexander, 81, of Waterloo, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at the Des Moines VA Medical Center.

Charles was born on October 10, 1944, in Waterloo, to Brock and Mentha Lee (Montgomery) Alexander. Charles attended East High School and participated with the football team, baseball team, and wrestling team, where he was part of the graduating class of 1963.

Following high school, Charles proudly served in the United States Army from 1963 until 1967, quickly earning the rank of Staff Sergeant. Charles married Redonna Brown in 1969, and they later divorced. He worked as a Groundsman for IPS and later MidAmerican Energy for 33 years, retiring on June 1, 2001. Charles was immensely proud of East High School and the fact that he was on the 1963 State Championship Wrestling team. He was a “lover” of cars, especially Corvettes and was an avid outdoorsman, loving to hunt and fish. Above all, Charles enjoyed being with his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Jim and Larry Alexander, and sister, Vergie Lee Duff.

Charles is survived by his daughter, Charlyn Alexander of Waterloo; sons, Troy Alexander of Iowa City and BC Alexander, of Dallas, TX; siblings, OraLee (Ben) Black, Linda Mae Starks, Gary Alexander, and Terry Alexander, all of Waterloo; grandchildren, Taylen, Tenea, and Mylea Alexander; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 19, 2025, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave, Waterloo. Funeral Service to follow at 1:00 p.m. Burial at Fairview Cemetery with military honors provided by the IA Army National Guard and American Legion Becker Chapman Post #138, and VFW Post #1623.
