Eloene Harwell, 95, of Marengo, formerly of Waterloo, died at Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo on Sunday, November 4, 2007.

Eloene was born July 2, 1912, in Des Moines, the daughter of Orville P. and Lucille Logan Davis.

Eloene married Elwood “Boots” Harwell on June 11, 1932 in Waterloo at Central Christian Church. He died on February 13, 2000.

She graduated from Waterloo West High School and then attended the University of Northern Iowa.

Eloene had worked as an Assistant Credit Manager at Black’s Department Store in Waterloo from 1950-1960.

Eloene had been a member of Central Christian Church since her baptism, a Sunday School teacher and a member of the women’s circle. She was a member of the King’s Daughters and Waterloo Firemen Auxiliary.

She enjoyed reading, sewing and crocheting.

She is survived by daughter Jean Merritt and her husband Charles of Marengo and son Jerry and his wife Virginia of Mesa, Arizona. Also survived by five grandchildren: Deb Phillips and her husband Dave, Chris Harwell, Michael Harwell and his wife Diana, Lee Ann Mitchler and her husband Allan, and Douglas Merritt and his wife Cori and nine great-grandchildren: Ashley, Christopher and Lacey Harwell; Josh and Ben Harwell; Allison and Alexandra Mitchler; and Kyra and Jenna Merritt.

Eloene is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Janice, and granddaughter Pam Harwell Tomaszewski.
