Elsie L. Bixby, 93, of Hillcrest Home in Sumner, Iowa, died at Hillcrest Home, Monday, March 21, 2011.

Elsie Lucille Frisch was born May 28, 1917, in Fayette County, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Louisa Seick Frisch.

Elsie grew up in Sumner and graduated from Sumner High School.

Her sister and she came to Waterloo during WW II to work at John Deere. It was in Waterloo she met Edward D. Bixby and they were married June 25, 1950 in Nashua, Iowa. Ed died on April 27, 1996.

Beside John Deere, Elsie had worked at Montgomery Ward’s for 13 years, retiring in 1979.

Elsie was active at Hudson United Methodist Church, enjoyed gardening and grew good tomatoes and pretty flowers. She was close to all her nieces and nephews and was bubbly and fun to be around.

She is survived by her sister Hazel Schwerin of Sumner and many nieces and nephews.

Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Robert in 1977, brothers Russell and Eldon Frisch, and sister Edna Gudzus.
